Borgo Riccio, a Historic Italian Residence

Borgo Riccio lies in the heart of Cilento, within easy reach of remarkable destinations such as Pompeii and Agropoli. Close to the sea yet immersed in greenery, the residence is surrounded by a garden of more than 400 olive trees, some of them centuries old, interspersed with white fig trees, flowers and Mediterranean scrub.

This enchanting retreat stands in the countryside surrounding the historic village of Torchiara, in the province of Salerno. Here, owner and host Angela Riccio de Braud has brought one of the area’s most beautiful historic residences back to life.

Torchiara has preserved its ancient character, with magnificent noble palaces and the 12th-century fortified Church of San Salvatore.

Set among the hills of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the residence is just a short distance from the sea at Agropoli. Once a Saracen settlement, Agropoli is now a lively coastal town whose crystal-clear waters have earned it the FEE Blue Flag for 2026.

For unforgettable swimming, visit Trentova Bay or take a boat to the protected marine areas of Vallone and Punta Tresino, all within ten minutes of Borgo Riccio.

Also within easy reach are the archaeological sites of Paestum, Velia and Pompeii; the long beach and pine forest of Punta Licosa; the dramatic coastline of Palinuro; and the celebrated towns of Amalfi and Positano.

The historic residence has been carefully renovated to make every stay as comfortable as possible.

Breakfast is available by prior arrangement and offers a generous selection of food and drinks, including local produce such as Borgo Riccio’s certified extra virgin olive oil. It is organically produced from olives hand-picked from the estate’s 400 trees.

Every corner of the residence invites guests to slow down and enjoy the moment, whether reading beneath a centuries-old olive tree or taking a refreshing dip in the outdoor swimming pool during the summer months.

At Borgo Riccio, all the senses are engaged: the song of the cicadas, the fragrance of jasmine, and views across the green Cilento hills towards the sea, with the island of Capri on the horizon.

An air-conditioned wellness area includes a Technogym-equipped fitness space, with a treadmill, Recline exercise bike and Unica multifunction machine. There is also a relaxation area with changing facilities and a treatment bed, where massages with a qualified therapist can be booked in advance.

Borgo Riccio is equally committed to environmental sustainability. The property is equipped with a large photovoltaic system and solar thermal panels for the production of hot water.

Bringing together relaxation and nature, it is an ideal setting for a SlowHoliday in Cilento.
